3784050 - Higher Duty Assignment cannot be manually ended due to "getEffectiveStartDate()" Error

• Attempting to end the assignment manually from All actions > Manage higher duties assignment > End results in an error.
• Error message observed when trying to end: java.lang.IllegalStateException: java.lang.NullPointerException: Cannot invoke "com.successfactors.genericobject.api.bean.GenericObject.getEffectiveStartDate()" because "goObj" is null.

SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central - Higher Duties & Public Sector

1. Open the affected user’s profile.
2. From All actions, select Manage higher duties assignment -> choose End, provide required details, and save.
3. Observe the error "java.lang.IllegalStateException: java.lang.NullPointerException: Cannot invoke "com.successfactors.genericobject.api.bean.GenericObject.getEffectiveStartDate()" because "goObj" is null.""

The Higher Duty/Temporary Assignment MDF record associated with the user is unavailable or cannot be resolved for the applicable effective date. Consequently, the application throws a NullPointerException while attempting to invoke the assignment's getEffectiveStartDate() method.

To resolve the issue, follow the steps below:

1.Verify whether the Higher Duty/Temporary Assignment MDF record exists

• • Navigate to Manage Data and search for the Higher Duty/Temporary Assignment Details record for the affected user.
  • If no record exists for the relevant effective period, recreate the missing record through an import.

2.Prepare and import the Higher Duty/Temporary Assignment record

• • Download the import template for the Higher Duty/Temporary Assignment Details object from Import and Export Data.
  • Populate the template with the required data.
  • Run Validate Import and resolve any validation errors, if applicable.
  • Once validation is successful, perform the import. If the import completes successfully, proceed to end the Higher Duty assignment.

3.End the Higher Duty/Temporary Assignment

• • Navigate to All Actions > Manage Higher Duties.
  • Select End.
  • Complete the required fields.
  • Save the changes.
