Symptom
- In the Full Profile, active and inactive employment records are displayed together without being sorted by employment status.
- Inactive (terminated) employment records may appear above active employment records.
- Users are confused by the irregular ordering of employments when performing work tasks (e.g., selecting an employment).
Environment
SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central
Reproducing the Issue
- Create a new employee with a primary employment.
- Add multiple concurrent employments with different hire dates.
Resolution
Normal state:
- The primary employment is generally displayed at the top, as its hire date is usually the earliest. Concurrent employments are displayed below it.
- If there are multiple concurrent employments, they are sorted by hire date, with the earlier hire date appearing first.
However, please note the following important points:
-
Modifying the hire date will NOT change the display position: If you bring forward the hire date of a concurrent employment (e.g., via hire date correction), its position in the list will not change accordingly. As a result, you may see a concurrent employment with an earlier hire date displayed lower in the list.
-
Terminating a concurrent employment will NOT change its position: When a concurrent employment is terminated, the system will not move it to the bottom. Termination does not affect its existing position.
-
The position will NOT be re-sorted after the primary employment is terminated: When the primary employment is terminated, you need to select one of the existing concurrent employments to become the new primary record. After this operation, the list order will not be re-sorted. Therefore, you may see the following scenario: the terminated original primary record (with the earliest hire date) remains at the top, while the new active primary record (which was previously a concurrent employment with a later hire date) appears below it.
Please note that this sorting logic is a standard system behavior and cannot be configured or customized. If a consistent view is required for HR operations, we recommend leveraging People Analytics / Advanced Reporting, which allows you to control the sorting based on your needs (e.g., by employment status or effective dates).
