• Follow-up posting after quality inspection in Customer Returns with Suspend Product Valuation raises error M7006: “Material … does not exist.”
  
• No error occurs at returns goods receipt; the error appears only after inspection during the follow-up posting (for example, to unrestricted-use stock or scrap).
  
• The return document flow shows an error after inspection completion.

1. Create a customer return using the Suspend Product Valuation process.
   
2. Post the returns goods receipt.
   
3. Record the inspection results for the returned product.
   
4. Perform the follow-up posting after inspection (for example, to unrestricted-use stock or scrap).
   
5. Observe that error M7006 “Material … does not exist” occurs and the return document flow shows an error.

• The product is not assigned to a storage location for the plant. The returns goods receipt inherits a storage location without validation, but the follow-up posting validates the plant–storage location assignment and raises M7006.

• The error is the result of the standard SAP processing logic.

  The issue lies in the "storage location assigned to plant" check, and that check is triggered at different points in two different posting steps.

  • returns GR → the storage location value comes from inheritance/default, no plant-assignment check is performed → no error
  • Follow-up posting after Inspection (transfer to unrestricted/scrap, etc.) → goes through the standard posting program, which does perform the plant–storage location assignment check → error occurs

1. Use app MM02 or app Manage Product Master to extend the product to the affected plant and maintain a valid storage location assignment in the product/material record at the organizational levels.
