Symptom
- When connecting to a model (for example, Datasphere analytic model) in an SAC story, creating a new table shows the dimension in Flat Presentation by default.
- However, creating a new table in the SAC Excel add-in for the same model shows a hierarchy by default instead of Flat Presentation.
Environment
SAP Analytics Cloud, add-in for Office
Reproducing the Issue
- Open the SAC Excel add-in and connect to a live Datasphere analytic model.
- Insert a new table.
- Add a dimension to the table.
- Observe that the dimension is displayed using a hierarchy by default, not Flat Presentation.
Cause
The behavior described is as expected and is not a product defect.
Unlike SAP Analytics Cloud Stories, where dimensions are initially displayed in a flat presentation, the SAC Excel Add-in is designed to automatically assign and display the first hierarchy returned by the backend when a dimension is added to the table. This is the intended behavior by design.
Resolution
- Enable Pause Refresh in the SAC Excel add-in.
- Add the required dimension to the Rows area.
- Change the hierarchy for the dimension to Flat Presentation.
- Disable Pause Refresh.
- The dimension will now display in Flat Presentation.
