3785927 - How to hide or remove the delete button for custom MDFs in the latest profile

Symptom

  • The user has Edit permission for the custom MDF, but when they click the Edit button in the profile, the Delete button appears, allowing them to delete MDF records.
  • How to restrict the deletion in the profile?

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Login the instance
  2. Create a custom MDF object and set the effective date as None
  3. Grant the user Edit permissions for that MDF
  4. Configure the custom MDF in the Configure Latest People Profile
  5. The user clicks the Edit button after adding data through the Profile
  6. The Delete button appears in the profile, allowing the user to delete MDF records

Cause

For objects without Effective Dating, the permissions for editing, deleting, and creating are managed under the same setting. Therefore, it is not possible to hide the delete button while still allowing access for creating and editing.

Resolution

You can use Rules to prevent the deletion by specific users. Please refer to the guide: Preventing Deletion of Specific Records
