Symptom
While completing Section 3 of Form I-9 for an F-1 employee, the user is unable to enter the employee’s work authorization expiration date from the Form I-20 document.
The system only provides options to enter information from the employee’s Foreign Passport and Form I-94, which do not capture the required work authorization expiration date from Form I-20.
Environment
SAP SuccessFactors Onboarding
Reproducing the Issue
- Create or access an onboarding process for an F-1 employee.
- Navigate to Section 3 of Form I-9.
- Select the applicable document information.
- Verify that the Form I-20 section is not displayed.
- Observe that the employee’s work authorization expiration date from Form I-20 cannot be entered.
Cause
The issue occurs when the required supporting document and work authorization status options are not selected correctly.
The Form I-20 section is displayed only when the applicable document and Duration of Stay (D/S) options are selected.
Resolution
To display the Form I-20 section and enter the employee’s work authorization information, ensure that the following options are selected:
- Select Form I-94/I-94A as the supporting document.
- Select Duration of Stay (D/S) as the employee’s work authorization status.
After these selections are made, the Form I-20 section is displayed, allowing the required work authorization information to be entered.
These selections are required for the Form I-20 fields to appear and for the reverification process to function as expected.
