Symptom
- An error occurs when opening a story; widgets fail to load data.
- Error shown in logs: {"error":"Unable to get the credentials via API-Proxy: Cannot invoke \"String.startsWith(String)\" because \"objectName\" is null"}
- Charts display: Failed to fetch data
- Client status code in console: (#513)
- Console stack includes FAILED_TO_FETCH_DATA
- Correlation ID: 37494229971249819032823035034143
- Issue reproduces in original and copied stories, in view, edit, and present modes.
- Data preview of the underlying model in the connected data source works.
- Removing a specific story input control filter or selecting “All” in that input control allows data to load and the error disappears.
Environment
SAP Analytics Cloud
Reproducing the Issue
- Log in to the Analytics Cloud tenant with a support user.
- Log in to the connected Datasphere tenant with a support user.
- Open an affected story that uses a live Datasphere model and includes an input control from an analytical model.
- Ensure the input control is set to a specific member (not “All”), then refresh the story.
- Observe that the widgets show “Failed to fetch data” and the browser console/HAR traces contain Error [Protocol] (#513) with {"error":"Unable to get the credentials via API-Proxy: Cannot invoke \"String.startsWith(String)\" because \"objectName\" is null"}.
Cause
A NullPointerException in the DWC Plugin occurs because the objectName value is null during credential retrieval via the API-Proxy for the sap/bc/ina/service/v2 endpoint.
Resolution
A fix was deployed in Datasphere side.
