3786395 - excel add-in save ignores view-only folder permissions and allows overwrite of files or create new - SAP Analytics Cloud, add-in for Microsoft Office

Symptom

  • The Excel add-in "Save" function does not respect folder-level write permissions set to view-only.
  • When a user saves a shared workbook via the Excel add-in without changing the destination, the original file is overwritten even if the target folder is configured as view-only.

Environment

Product: SAP Analytics Cloud, add-in for Microsoft Office Application

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Sign in with a user who has Create and Update permissions for Add-in Workbooks.
  2. Ensure a shared folder is configured as View-only (no Create/Update) for this user.
  3. Open a workbook from that folder using the Excel add-in.
  4. Make any change in the workbook.
  5. Click Save or Save As without changing the destination folder.
  6. Observe that the shared file is overwritten and/or a new workbook can be saved in the view-only folder.

Cause

A role with Create/Manage permissions on Private/Public Files is assigned to the user.

Resolution

Adjusting the role permission to ensure no Create/Manage permission on files are provided.
