Symptom
In a multidimensional report based on a custom analytical query, the options Show Totals, Show Totals at Top, and Show Totals at Bottom are disabled (greyed out) when a measure column is selected.
Environment
SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition
Reproducing the Issue
- Create a Custom Analytical Query.
- Open 'View Browser' and search for the custom analytical query and click 'Create Application'.
- Assign the application to a Business Catalog via Custom Catalog Extensions application.
- Open the new Custom Application.
- Add a measure to the columns of the reports output.
- Select the measure column and attempt to enable Show Totals, Show Totals at Top, or Show Totals at Bottom: the options remain disabled (greyed out).
Cause
The behavior is by design: total options apply to dimensions, not to measures. A measure cannot be totaled by itself in the column menu.
Resolution
You must select a column that is a Dimension to be able to enable the Total Values.
- In the multidimensional report, select a dimension column (for example, Source Ledger) instead of the measure column.
- Open the column menu for the selected dimension.
- Enable Show Totals and, if required, choose Show Totals at Top or Show Totals at Bottom to display the result row for that dimension’s members.
- Verify that the total amount for the measure (for example, Amount in Company Code Currency) appears in the totals row associated with the selected dimension.
