Symptom

In a multidimensional report based on a custom analytical query, the options Show Totals, Show Totals at Top, and Show Totals at Bottom are disabled (greyed out) when a measure column is selected.

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Create a Custom Analytical Query.
  2. Open 'View Browser' and search for the custom analytical query and click 'Create Application'.
  3. Assign the application to a Business Catalog via Custom Catalog Extensions application.
  4. Open the new Custom Application.
  5. Add a measure to the columns of the reports output.
  6. Select the measure column and attempt to enable Show Totals, Show Totals at Top, or Show Totals at Bottom: the options remain disabled (greyed out).

Cause

The behavior is by design: total options apply to dimensions, not to measures. A measure cannot be totaled by itself in the column menu.

Resolution

You must select a column that is a Dimension to be able to enable the Total Values.

  1. In the multidimensional report, select a dimension column (for example, Source Ledger) instead of the measure column.
  2. Open the column menu for the selected dimension.
  3. Enable Show Totals and, if required, choose Show Totals at Top or Show Totals at Bottom to display the result row for that dimension’s members.
  4. Verify that the total amount for the measure (for example, Amount in Company Code Currency) appears in the totals row associated with the selected dimension.
