3787816 - Error message 29237 - "at least one allocation must exist for each alternative/variant" occurs when removing plant - SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition

Symptom

  • Unable to remove a plant from a bill of material (BOM) using “Remove plant” in APP Maintain Bill of Material/ CS07.
  • Error message 29237 displayed: “At least one allocation must exist for each alternative/variant.”

Environment

  • Product: SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Open the app Maintain Bill of Material (F1813) or use CS07.
  2. Select a BOM with a specific usage and alternative/variant that has plant allocations.
  3. Select all current plant allocations and choose Remove plant.
  4. Observe the error: “At least one allocation must exist for each alternative/variant” (Message no. 29237).

Cause

The selected BOM is normal BOM without plant allocation, Only Group BOM with plant allocation can use "Remove Plant".

Resolution

Verify the BOM type:

  • If it is a Group BOM with multiple plant allocations, proceed to step 1.
  • If it is a normal (plant-specific) BOM without plant allocations, proceed to step 2.
  1. For Group BOMs: Select only the plant(s) you intend to remove, ensuring at least one plant allocation remains for the same usage and alternative/variant, then run Remove plant.
  2. For normal (plant-specific) BOMs: Do not use Remove plant. Delete the BOM directly if it should no longer exist for that plant.
