3788288 - ESR/ID fails with HTTP/1.1 307 Temporary Redirect

Symptom

After enabling HTTPS for PI/PO tools as described in KBA 2359547 - How to activate HTTPS for Repository and Directory Tools, launching Enterprise Services Repository (ESR) or Integration Directory (ID) fails with following errors:

Error When Executing Open:
Connection to system REPOSITORY using application REPOSITORY lost. Detailed information: Error accessing "http://<host>:<port>/rep/query/int?container=any" with user "PIDIR<SID>" Status of response is HTTP/1.1 307 Temporary Redirect - Temporary Redirect
