Symptom
- The "Start Date in First Job" field in Onboarding is non-editable during the "Review New Hire Data" step.
- Users have the necessary permissions to edit the field, but it remains non-editable.
- The client wants the field to be mandatory in Onboarding but non-mandatory in Employee Central (EC).
- If the field is non-editable and contains a null value, users may be blocked at the "Review New Hire Data step.
- No error messages are displayed.
Environment
SAP SuccessFactors Onboarding
Reproducing the Issue
- Populate a position for the candidate in Onboarding.
- Proceed to the "Review New Hire Data" step.
- Observe that the "Start Date in First Job" field is read-only despite the user having edit permissions.
Cause
- Standard behavior when the hire is initiated via "Add New Employee to This Position" from the Position Org Chart: certain fields, including Hire Date/Start Date, are auto-derived and displayed as read-only in the Hire/Rehire wizard.
- Role-Based Permissions do not apply within the wizard and cannot override this design.
Resolution
- If the hire was initiated using "Add New Employee to This Position" from the Position Org Chart, note this is by design: the Start Date and related fields are read-only in the Hire/Rehire wizard, and RBP does not apply or override this behavior.
- It is not feasible to configure the Start Date as mandatory in Onboarding while keeping it non-mandatory in EC; the EC Job Information start date is system-required.
