Symptom

Authentication requests fail with an error similar to:

  • Authentication via OIDC Bearer Token (user propagation via OpenID Connect) failed: Language (IV_LANGUAGE) invalid (is empty).

The issue may manifest as:

  • HTTP 401 Unauthorized
  • HTTP 500 Internal Server Error
  • OIDC authentication failures
  • OAuth authentication failures
  • Failed API calls
  • Failed SAP Business Application Studio (BAS) deployments
  • Failed SAP Fiori deployment operations
  • Failed custom application access to SAP S/4HANA
