3791244 - Variables are not saved in a Bookmark in SAP Analytics Cloud

• Script variables are not restored when loading a bookmark in an SAP Analytics Cloud story.
• After loading a bookmark, script variables contain a value of null despite having been correctly populated at the time the bookmark was saved.

This is expected product behavior. By default, SAP Analytics Cloud does not persist dynamic variable values, including script variables, into bookmarks. The story must be explicitly configured to enable this behavior.

The relevant setting is named "Override default variable settings" and is found in Story Details, under the Bookmark Settings section. When this setting is not enabled, the bookmark save operation may appear to succeed, and variable values may be correctly populated at save time, but upon loading the bookmark, the variables are not restored and will return null or their default initialized value.

To enable script variable values to be persisted and restored via bookmarks, the following settings must be configured at design time.

  1. Open the story in Edit mode.
  2. Navigate to Story Details (top menu > Story Details).
  3. Scroll to the Bookmark Settings section.
  4. Enable "Override default variable settings".
  5. Enable "Keep last saved values for dynamic variables".
  6. Save the story.

Important: Re-save existing bookmarks.

Additional Information

The "Enable viewers to modify settings" option, when enabled, allows story viewers to choose at save time whether to include dynamic variable values in their bookmark, giving end users control over the behavior.
