3791642 - Fiori RAP / Fiori Elements Application Extremely Slow on Startup or Freezes - S/4HANA

Symptom

  • The web browser completely freezes or hangs for 30 to 60+ seconds on the front-end server/client layer.
  • Deleting variants or switching variants from Public to Private in the Fiori UI does not immediately resolve the performance issue.
  • Blocking the Layered Repository (LREP) HTTP request (/sap/bc/lrep/flex/data/...) via Developer Tools causes the application to load instantly.
  • Backend queries are fast -> Backend OData execution calls return quickly, but client-side processing shows continuous main-thread blocking dominated by V8 Garbage Collection (GC).
  • An OData v4 or OData v2 Fiori Elements application (e.g., List Report app com.<YourCustomApp>.<appName> or similar custom apps) experiences severe rendering delays during initial launch.
