3792023 - Out of memory when scrolling a table in canvas stories (optimized) leading to unresponsive page in SAP Analytics Cloud.

When executing a SAC story with a table in Canvas, the page becomes unresponsive and shows an "out of memory" error while scrolling.

SAP Analytics Cloud

1. Open a story that contains a table in a Canvas/Responsive page (optimized experience) based on a live BW connection.
2. Apply prompts/filters to load several months of data for a specific organizational slice.
3. Navigate to the page that hosts the large table.
4. Open the table settings and select Edit Drill Limitation.
5. Set Drill Limitation behavior to Unlimited.
6. Wait until the table finishes loading and then scroll down through the rows.
7. Observe that the browser becomes unresponsive and SAC shows an “Out of memory” error.
8. Note: Issue is reproducible in copies of the story and in newly created stories using the same data source, across multiple browsers and machines.

The page becomes unresponsive and displays an "out of memory" error because the table’s drill limitation is set to unlimited.

When the drill limitation is set to unlimited, there is no cap on the volume of data that the table can load. While scrolling through the table content, the browser progressively loads more and more data. When this data volume exceeds the available memory allocated to the browser, the page becomes unresponsive and the "out of memory" error is triggered.

This is expected behavior given the current configuration.

To prevent the browser from running out of memory, avoid setting the drill limitation to unlimited unless absolutely necessary. Instead, configure an appropriate drill limitation value to control the amount of data loaded into the table.

Steps to adjust the drill limitation:

1. Open the SAC story in Edit mode.
2. Select the affected table on the Canvas.
3. Navigate to the table’s settings (Builder / Properties panel).
4. Locate the Drill Limitation setting.
5. Change the value from Unlimited to a defined, reasonable limit based on your data volume and analysis needs.
6. Save the story and re-test by scrolling through the table.

Recommendation: Use the "unlimited" drill limitation setting cautiously. For large datasets, always define a limit to keep the data volume within the browser’s memory capacity and ensure stable performance.
