3792230 - SAP Analytics Cloud and SAP Datasphere: Cross-Region Tunnel Connectivity Is Not Supported Across Different SAP BTP Regions (e.g., US20 and US21)

Symptom

Customer is attempting to establish a tunnel live data connection between SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC) and SAP Datasphere, where the two tenants are hosted in different BTP regions, for example:

  • SAC tenant in US20
  • SAP Datasphere tenant in US21

The customer either:

  • Asks whether cross-region tunnel connectivity between SAC and SAP Datasphere is supported, or
  • The tunnel connection fails to establish when both tenants reside in different data centers/regions.

Cause

  • SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC) connections do not support cross-region connectivity.
  • Both the SAP Analytics Cloud and SAP Datasphere tenants must reside in the same SAP BTP region, data center, and landscape to satisfy tunnel connection and Unified Customer Landscape (UCL) prerequisites.
  • Therefore, a connection between tenants hosted in different regions, such as US20 and US21, is not a supported SAP configuration.

Resolution

Cross-data center tunnel connections between SAP Analytics Cloud and SAP Datasphere are not supported.

SAP documentation explicitly states: "Both SAP Analytics Cloud and SAP Datasphere tenants must be in the same data center and same landscape." Restriction: Cross-data center connections are not supported.

Workaround / Recommended Approach

Provision both the SAC tenant and SAP Datasphere tenant in the same BTP region and data center. This is the only supported configuration for a tunnel / live data connection between the two products.

To enable the desired connectivity scenario, it is recommended to work with your:

  • SAP Account Owner / Account Executive
  • Customer Success Partner (CSP)
  • Technical Quality Manager (TQM), if assigned

to evaluate the possibility of aligning both tenants within the same SAP BTP region by relocating either the US20 or US21 tenant.
