3792501 - 'Model or Dataset' option not showing as data source when creating a new story in SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC)

Symptom

  • Unable to select an existing model or dataset when creating a new story with a non-admin user account after the QRC3 update.
  • The option to select existing models or datasets is available when using an admin account with Admin role.
  • The option to select existing models or datasets is no longer showing when using a non-admin account.

Environment

SAP Analytics Cloud 2026.15.3

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Log in to SAC tenant using a user which has admin roles applied.
  2. Attempt to create a new story.
  3. When a new story is created, select Model or Dataset to be used for the new story creation.
  4. Observe that there are several live models/import models and datasets ready to be selected.
  5. Log in to SAC tenant using a user that has non-admin roles ("normal user").
  6. Attempt to create a new story.
  7. When a new story is created, observe that the Model or Dataset option is not available for selection under the 'Add data' section.

Cause

  • Under Security -> Roles, the 'Dataset' option is toggled off for the custom role that is applied to the "normal user".
  • The 'Dataset' line's 'Read' setting being toggled off causes the problem that the Models and Datasets option does not come up when creating a new story.

Resolution

  • Under Security -> Roles, select the role/roles that are applied to the "normal user", scroll down to the 'Dataset' line and enable the 'Read' checkbox.
  • If multiple roles are applied to a "normal user", it is enough to set the 'Dataset' 'Read' toggle on on only one role.
