Symptom

The system allows saving sales order without adding items in the Manage Sales Orders version 1 and 2 apps or in Create Sales Orders - VA01 app.

Environment

SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Access Manage Sales Orders version 1 or 2 or Create Sales Orders - VA01 apps.
  2. Add the sold to party and the required fields
  3. Don't add any item
  4. Try to save the sales orders
  5. See that the document was created without any item or material.

Cause

Standard system design defined by SAP.

Resolution

It is the standard behavior within the system to allow a sales order to be saved without items. This design supports business processes in which some customers initially create sales orders at the header level and add item details later.
