Symptom
When a Supplier Invoice Template is created from an existing Supplier Invoice, system returns an error message "Save not possible; document numbering rule missing".
Environment
SAP Business ByDesign
Reproducing the Issue
- Go to Supplier Invoicing work center.
- Go to Invoices and Credit Memos view.
- Select All Documents.
- Select Supplier Invoice ABC (ABC represents Supplier Invoice ID).
- Choose Template from New Button.
- Enter the required details.
- Choose Check button.
- Choose Save button.
Error message appears as below:
- Save not possible; document numbering rule missing
- Save failed
Cause
- When a Supplier Invoice Template is created from an existing Supplier Invoice, the system incorrectly applies document numbering logic to the template.
- This causes the system to search for a corresponding document numbering rule.
- This cannot be resolved through configuration and requires a code correction.
Resolution
- A correction has been added to the product backlog to address this issue. The fix is planned and will be released in one of the future product release.
- After the correction is deployed, creating a Supplier Invoice Template directly from an existing Supplier Invoice will work as expected.
As a workaround, create the Supplier Invoice Template independently without referencing a Supplier Invoice.
- Go to Supplier Invoicing work center.
- Select New Invoice Template, under Common Tasks.
- Maintain the mandatory information for the Supplier Invoice Template.
- Choose Check Button.
- Choose Save Button.
The template is successfully created.
