• In My Inbox, the review task shows no button to manually complete; after using Claim and then Release, the review step does not change to Completed until all approval steps finish.
• A review step can be added even when an automatic approval step is configured; once automatic approval occurs, the review task is also completed automatically.
• Users expect the review task to remain actionable independently of approval completion or to be disallowed when only automatic approval is used.

SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition

1. Configure a PO approval workflow that includes a Review step and one or more Approval steps
2. Create a PO so the workflow starts and a Review task appears in My Inbox.
3. Open the Review task in My Inbox: no dedicated Complete button is available; click Claim and then Release.
4. Observe that the Review task does not complete until the approval steps are fully completed.

1. Configure a workflow with only an automatic approval step and a Review step.
2. Start the workflow and observe that after automatic approval, the Review task is completed automatically.

The behavior is by design: the Review step is an informational step spanning the entire approval chain and does not provide approve/reject actions. It completes only when the overall workflow (approved or rejected) completes. It is allowed alongside automatic approval because it can be used to monitor multi-step approval scenarios.

Use the Review step to monitor the approval process; do not expect to complete it manually. It completes automatically when the workflow ends (approved or rejected).
