3801241 - Batch number range status higher than last batch created

Symptom

The NR Status (Number Range Status) displayed in configuration activity 103291 - Define Batch Number Ranges is higher than the last batch number actually created in the system.

Environment

SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Open configuration activity 103291 - Define Batch Number Ranges.
  2. Compare the displayed NR Status with the last batch number actually created; observe NR Status is higher.

Cause

Main Memory Buffering is enabled by default on the number range object used for batch numbers, so the database NR Status reflects pre-reserved numbers rather than the last assigned number.

The default buffer size for the batch number range is 1.

Resolution

This behavior is by design.

To realign the NR Status with the last batch number actually created:

  1. Go to configuration activity 103291 - Define Batch Number Ranges.
  2. Select the NR Status option for the relevant number range.
  3. Set the current status to a value greater than the last batch number actually created (the next batch will start from the next number).
