Symptom
When posting an asset supplier invoice via MIRO (integrated asset acquisition), the following error is returned:
"Account 'KTNAIB : Capital. difference/Non-operatn' could not be found for area 32"
The error occurs even though the asset master does not have the non-leading ledger (e.g., ledger 2L) assigned. The customer expects no non-leading ledger posting to be required.
The posting may succeed in one system (e.g., Development) but fail in another (e.g., Production), due to a missing G/L account in the target company code.
Environment
SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition
Reproducing the Issue
- Post an asset invoice using MIRO (invoice for asset acquisition).
- On simulate or post, observe the error: "Account 'KTNAIB : Capital. difference/Non-operatn' could not be found for area 32."
Cause
This is standard system behavior.
For an integrated asset acquisition posting (supplier invoice posted against an asset), the system splits the business transaction into two parts:
- Operational part (vendor invoice): Posts ledger-independent document lines against the technical clearing account for integrated asset acquisitions.
- Valuating part (asset posting): Posts ledger-specific documents for each accounting principle maintained in the chart of depreciation for the company code.
For accounting principles where the asset does not exist (e.g., the asset is only assigned to the leading ledger 0L, but ledger 2L is also active for the company code), the system cannot capitalize the asset and instead posts the amount as an acquisition difference (expense). This requires the G/L account assigned to symbolic account:
- KTNAIB – Capital. difference/Non-operating expense
This applies even if the 2L ledger is not assigned to the asset master. The behavior is described in KBA 3365219 – Manage Journal Entry – Entry View / Ledger View difference for Integrated Asset posting.
Resolution
Option 1 – Maintain KTNAIB account determination
In the account determination configuration, assign a G/L account for symbolic account KTNAIB (Capital. difference/Non-operating expense) for the relevant account determination key and company code.
Option 2 – Fallback via KTANSG
If KTNAIB is not maintained, the system applies a fallback: it uses the G/L account assigned to KTANSG (Offsetting Account: Acquisition Value Posting) instead.
In this case, ensure the G/L account assigned to KTANSG is created and active in the company code where the error occurs. Verify this in the Manage G/L Account Master Data app.
Note: The error may appear in Production but not in Development if the fallback G/L account exists in Development but not in Production. Check the G/L account master data consistency across systems
