Symptom
- Users experience intermittent technical issues when viewing the SCORM content in learning; the layout of certain slides becomes corrupted during playback.
- Issues occur randomly.
- The problem occurs on the same slides across different users, but not all users.

Reproducing the Issue
- Launch the affected SCORM 1.2 item in learning.
- Navigate to the slides identified by users and observe that the slide layout intermittently appears corrupted during playback.
Resolution
The issue appears to be caused by a race condition between asynchronous loading of the style file and JavaScript execution.
Our engineering team investigated this by reproducing the behavior locally. However, the local setup does not allow for network throttling. Under conditions of poor network performance, this issue is more likely to occur, while actions such as clearing the browser cache may temporarily improve the behavior.
The identified root cause is that the style <link> element is placed at the bottom of the HTML <body> tag, which can lead to timing issues during page rendering and trigger the race condition.
As per best practices, both the Storyline 360 community guidance and MDN documentation advise against placing <link> elements within the <body>:
- Storyline 360 reference: https://community.articulate.com/discussions/discuss/copy-text-from-screen-of-published-module/834531/replies/834553
- MDN documentation: https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/HTML/Reference/Elements/link
MDN specifically recommends placing <link> elements within the <head> section to ensure proper loading order and avoid such issues.
Based on these findings, this behavior is not caused by the LMS, but rather by the structure of the content itself. We recommend reaching out to your content provider or Articulate Storyline 360 support team to correct the HTML structure and resolve the issue.
