3801827 - Error 'Document was already reversed' when reversing a Reversal Journal entry with Journal Entry – Reverse API – SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition

Symptom

  • When attempting to reverse a Reversal journal entry using the Journal Entry – Reverse API, the operation fails.
  • Error messages include: "Document was already reversed", and "No item information transferred into Accounting".

Environment

SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Post a reversal for an original journal entry (document A) using the Journal Entry – Reverse API, creating the reversal document (document B).
  2. Attempt to reverse the reversal document (document B) again using the same API.
  3. Observe that the API call fails with errors such as "Document was already reversed" and "No item information transferred into Accounting".

Cause

The Journal Entry – Reverse API does not support reversing a reversal document.

Resolution

It is possible to use the Reverse function of app Manage Journal Entries to perform the reversal in some cases. 

The reversal via Journal Entry - Reverse API cannot do a reversal of a reversal document, especially not for postings originate from non-Finance Posting like Sales or Purchasing.
