Symptom
- Form 144 generated in the Run Statutory Reports app completes without errors, but the Income type field is not populated in the downloaded text file.
- In the output lines, the field after the section code (where Income type should appear per the e‑TDS data structure) is blank.
- The issue occurs with selection IN_WHT_DCL_QRETURNS – Text File for the specified reporting period and run id.
Environment
SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition
Reproducing the Issue
- Open the Run Statutory Reports app.
- Set Report name to: IN_WHT_FORM_27Q
- Select IN_WHT_DCL_QRETURNS – Text File.
- Download the generated Form 144 text file and observe that the Income type is blank.
Cause
The Income type is not the same as the official withholding tax section code and is determined from the Income type assigned to the relevant withholding tax code. If the Income type is not assigned to the withholding tax code the Income type field in the Form 144 text file remains blank.
Resolution
- Open configuration activity "104770 - Check Income Types" and ensure the required Income Types are defined.
- Open configuration activity "10422 - Define Withholding Tax Codes" and map the appropriate Income Type to each relevant combination of Withholding Tax Type and Tax Code.
Note: A single document contains multiple tax types and tax codes, the system displays the income type corresponding to one of the tax codes available in the document. When multiple tax types and tax codes are maintained within the same document; the same income type should be assigned consistently to all the relevant tax codes.
