3802177 - Proof of Delivery – Update API Updates POD Data but Does Not Confirm or Cancel the POD in SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition.

Symptom

  • You use the Proof of Delivery – Update SOAP API (PROOFOFDELIVERYREQUEST_IN; B2B, asynchronous, inbound) from the SAP Business Accelerator Hub.
  • The API updates POD-relevant information on the Outbound Delivery (for example, POD date, received quantities, quantity differences), but the POD status is not set to Confirmed.
  • You want to know whether POD confirmation and cancellation are handled by a separate interface.

Environment

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Call the SOAP endpoint for the Proof of Delivery – Update service:
    .../sap/bc/srt/scs_ext/sap/proofofdeliveryrequest_in
  2. Send a payload referencing an Outbound Delivery (for example, delivery 12345).
  3. Observe that the POD data (e.g., POD date, received quantities) is updated.
  4. Observe that the POD status is not confirmed.

Cause

This is standard, expected system behavior.

The Proof of Delivery – Update service (PROOFOFDELIVERYREQUEST_IN) only updates POD data on an existing outbound delivery. This includes received quantities, quantity differences, and reason codes.  It does not confirm or cancel the POD.

  • POD confirmation is a separate operation, performed via a dedicated Fiori application (VLPODQ).
  • POD cancellation is explicitly excluded from this service. The service documentation lists "Cancel proofs of delivery" under its Constraints as an operation that is not possible.
  • The Business Accelerator Hub confirms that the only Proof of Delivery SOAP API available for SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition is the Update service — no separate confirmation or cancellation SOAP interface is published.

Resolution

POD update and confirmation are two separate steps by design:

  1. Update POD data: via the SOAP API PROOFOFDELIVERYREQUEST_IN (received quantities, differences, reason codes).
  2. Confirm the POD: via the Fiori app Automatic Confirmation – Proof of Delivery (App ID: VLPODQ). This sets the POD status on the outbound delivery header to Confirmed and creates a worklist for any quantity/value corrections.

Cancellation is not supported by the Update API (see the Constraints section of the service documentation) and no dedicated cancellation SOAP interface exists.

If an API for automated confirmation/cancellation is required, submit a feature request via the SAP Customer Influence program (see KBA 2963059).
