3802403 - Open item or cleared item view is not available for group reporting journal entries – SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition

Symptom

  • The option to display only open or outstanding journal entry amounts is not available in SAP Group Reporting, unlike the Open Items selection available in SAP Financial Accounting.
  • Group Data Analysis and Display Group Journal Entries show both the original posting and all subsequent offsetting postings. The resulting FS item balance is correct, but it is not possible to display only the remaining outstanding portion using an FI-style open item view.
  • Example scenario:
    • Original Group Reporting posting: 1,000
    • Subsequent offsetting posting: -800
    • Current FS item balance: 200
  • The Group Reporting drilldown displays all line items contributing to the balance rather than only the net outstanding amount.
  • No filter or line item status option is available to show only open items or only cleared items for Group Reporting journal entries.

Environment

SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Open Post Group Journal Entries app and create a Group Reporting journal entry for an FS item (for example, amount 1,000).
  2. Post a second Group Reporting journal entry for the same relevant characteristics that offsets part of the original amount (for example, -800).
  3. Open Group Data Analysis or Display Group Journal Entries.
  4. Navigate to the relevant FS item and drill down to the journal entry line items.
  5. Confirm that both the original posting and the subsequent offsetting posting are displayed.
  6. Confirm that the resulting FS item balance reflects the net amount (for example, 200).
  7. Review the available filters and line item status options, no FI-style selection to display only open items or only cleared items is available.

Cause

This is the expected system behavior.

SAP Group Reporting displays the Group Reporting journal entries and line items stored in ACDOCU. The standard Group Reporting applications do not perform an FI-style open item calculation and do not provide an equivalent open items or cleared items selection for Group Reporting journal entries.

When an original posting and a subsequent offsetting posting exist in ACDOCU, both journal entry line items are displayed and the resulting FS item balance reflects the net amount.

In SAP Financial Accounting, open item management is defined at G/L account level. Items posted to an open item managed G/L account are initially open and become cleared through the accounting clearing process, which allows applications to distinguish between open and cleared items.

The Group Reporting reporting model does not provide the same open and cleared item reporting concept for standard Group Reporting journal entries stored in ACDOCU.

Resolution

No configuration or authorization change is available to enable an FI-style open items or cleared items view for standard Group Reporting journal entries.

The standard Group Reporting applications display all journal entries and line items contributing to the consolidated balance.

Workaround only: For realtime accounting documents with document type 0F and blank posting level, Display Group Journal Entries reads the line items directly from the accounting layer. Navigation to the corresponding accounting functionality is available, where open and cleared item reporting is supported when the underlying G/L account is managed on an open item basis.

If an open item view directly within Group Reporting is required for business or audit purposes, please submit an enhancement request through the SAP Customer Influence portal:
