3802501 - Production Version field is read-only in Manage Product Master Data (F1602) app — SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition

In the Manage Product Master Data (F1602) app, the Production Version field is visible in the costing-related area but remains read-only even in Edit mode.

The Value Help indicates that Production Version should be maintained in material data via Costing view 1 (classic MM02 maintenance).

1. Open the Fiori app Manage Product Master Data (F1602).
2. Display a material and plant where the Production Version field is applicable.
3. Navigate to the costing-related section containing Production Version (MARC-FVIDK) field.
4. Switch to Edit mode.
5. Attempt to change Production Version; the field remains read-only and no error is shown.

This is standard system behavior by design, not the product defect. The Manage Product Master Data (F1602) app follows a leaner application concept and does not expose all material master fields for editing.

Production Version (MARC-FVIDK) field is shown in F1602 for informational and transparency purposes — allowing users to view the current value in context without navigating to a separate transaction.

This is a deliberate UX decision: displaying the value supports data visibility and auditability, while restricting editing preserves data integrity and keeps the app scope lean.

Workaround:

1. Maintain Production Version (MARC-FVIDK) field using the Change Material (MM02) app in the Costing view 1.
2. Save the changes and verify in Manage Product Master Data (F1602) that the updated value is displayed (read-only).
