Symptom
- Clarification is requested whether the SAP Analytics Cloud Processor (Data Provisioning Processor / DP Processor) is required for a DES- or middleware-based writeback from SAC to an S/4HANA custom Z-table, or if DES/middleware alone is sufficient.
- Clarification is requested whether, if required, the DP component is included with standard SAC BI/Planning licenses or needs a separate license and on-premise installation.
Environment
- SAP Analytics Cloud
- Data Integration
- Data Export API
- Data Import API
Reproducing the Issue
- Not applicable; this is a product scope and licensing clarification without a reproducible error.
Cause
Resolution
- DP Agent requirement: In the SAP-documented DES-based flow to load SAC data into S/4HANA on SAP HANA (including custom Z-tables), the DP Agent (Data Provisioning Agent) is required. DES is a pull-based OData API and does not push data into S/4HANA tables by itself.
- Architecture outline: Install DP Agent (version 2.5.3 or higher), register the CloudDataIntegrationAdapter (SDI CDI Adapter), create a Remote Source in SAP HANA to the SAC DES endpoint, create virtual tables, then load into target Z-tables using HANA flowgraphs, ABAP logic, or BW data flows.
- Licensing: DP Agent is part of SAP HANA Smart Data Integration (SDI). It is not a standalone separately licensed product; appropriate SAP HANA SDI entitlement is required on the S/4HANA side. Access to DES requires one of the SAC licenses that include DES (for example, SAC for business intelligence, predictive edition; SAC for planning, predictive standard/professional editions). Confirm entitlements with the account team.
- Installation and sizing: Install the DP Agent on a server with outbound HTTPS to SAC and network access to SAP HANA. Start the DPSERVER service in SAP HANA, connect the agent via the configuration tool, and set JVM parameter Xmx to at least 8192m to avoid performance issues.
- RISE/Cloud Private Edition nuance: Ensure the DP Agent can connect to the managed SAP HANA instance (SDI DPSERVER accessibility). If direct registration is restricted, coordinate with SAP on whether a middleware approach is preferred in that topology.
