- In latest people profile, the photo upload dialog shows only an upload button without guidance on allowed file format, size, or aspect ratio.
- When uploading a profile picture that does not meet undeclared constraints, a generic error appears: "An application error occurred. Please try again later, or notify support if the issue keeps occurring."
- In the legacy people profile, guidance text was displayed: "Please upload your photo in JPG/JPEG/PNG format. File size should be no longer than 2 MB, and the aspect ratio of 3:4 is recommended", helping users avoid errors.
- Users are unable to identify the reason for upload failure directly from the page, leading to repeated failed attempts.

Reproducing the Issue
In latest people profile, open Edit Profile Picture, upload a file larger than 2 MB or upload a file in an unsupported format (e.g., .gif or .bmp) , and click Save
→ a generic application error is displayed with no clear reason.
Cause
In the latest people profile, the guidance text that existed in the legacy profile was not carried over during the UI redesign. As a result, users are not informed of the file format, size, or aspect ratio requirements, and receive only a generic error message upon upload failure.
Resolution
A fix (SFEDU-21229) has been planned as part of the 2H 2026 release. Once the fix is delivered, a text will be reintroduced to visually display the reason for the error, allowing users to identify the root cause directly from the UI.

In the meantime, the following workarounds are recommended to help users avoid upload errors:
1. Ensure the profile picture meets the upload requirements
Please verify that the image file meets all of the following requirements before uploading. Refer to KBA2673036 - Error during Employee Photo Upload for further details.

2. Add upload requirements to the "Edit Profile Picture" label via Manage Languages
To provide users with clear guidance directly on the UI, administrators can customize the "Edit Profile Picture" label text using the Manage Languages tool.
