3803065 - SUM PREP_EXTRACT/SUMASK repeats Passwords dialog and DDIC login fails with RFC timeout because no dialog work process is assigned

Symptom

  • System upgrade using SUM cannot proceed during phase PREP_EXTRACT/SUMASK; the Passwords dialog is repeatedly shown and the phase is blocked.
  • RFC login attempts for user DDIC fail during the validation step. In the phase log SUMASK.LOG, the following entries can be found.

    1 ETQ359 RFC Login to: System="<SID>", AsHost="<hostname>" Nr="<NR>", Client="000", User="DDIC", GwHost="<hostname>", GwService="sapgw<NR>"
    2WETQ231 RFC Login failed
    4WETQ399 Dialogue validator 'DDICValidator' failed with 'DDIC password does not work:
