Symptom
System triggers below error when creating new Material Flow Rules for a Logistics Area
Error: "Sequence ID Source_XXX already exists"
"Sequence ID DESTINATION_YYY already exists"
XXX represents the Source sequence ID, YYY represents the Destination sequence ID
Environment
SAP Business ByDesign
Reproducing the Issue
- Go to Supply Chain Design Master Data work center.
- Go to Locations view.
- Search and select the Site ABC (ABC represents the Site ID).
- Choose Edit Layout.
- Select the Logistics area DEF (DEF represents the Logistics area ID).
- Go to Material Flow Rules Tab.
- Choose Create.
- Select Advanced rule.
- The Error occurs,
Sequence ID DESTINATION_XXX already exists
Sequence ID SOURCE_YYY already exists
(XXX represents the Source sequence ID, YYY represents the Destination sequence ID)
Cause
- When creating a new Material Flow Rule, system automatically generates the Sequence ID based on the last auto-generated Sequence ID.
- The material flow rules can be created manually or by migration using a different Sequence ID.
- When creating a new material flow rule, the system continues to generate the Sequence ID based on the previous auto-generated ID, instead of the latest manually used ID.
- If the generated Sequence ID already exists, the system displays the error "Sequence ID Source_XXX / DESTINATION_YYY already exists" (XXX represents the Source sequence ID, YYY represents the Destination sequence ID).
Resolution
- This is the standard system behavior.
- If the automatically generated Sequence ID already exists, manually change it to a unique Sequence ID that is not currently in use. Once a unique Sequence ID is entered, the Material Flow Rule can be created and saved successfully.
