3803649 - Date resolution for month offset in business rules

Symptom

When using a business rule condition with a month offset (for example, month number = -2) from a date on the 31st, which date will be selected if the target month has fewer than 31 days?

Environment

  • Product: SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central

Cause

Resolution

When using Date Plus with a number of months, the function returns the same day number in the target month.

However, if that day does not exist in the target month, the function returns the last day of that month instead.

Example:

  • Starting date: August 31
  • Offset: −2 months
  • Target month: June → June does not have a 31st
  • Result: June 30 (the last day of June)
