Symptom
- In the Maintain Bill of Material (F1813) app, copying an existing text item shows Fixed Quantity = No in the copy dialog, but after saving the BOM the copied item’s Fixed Quantity changes to Yes.
- The issue does not occur for stock items (item category L); their Fixed Quantity remains unchanged after saving.
- Users must reopen the BOM, clear the Fixed Quantity flag on the copied text item, and save again.
- No error messages are displayed.
Environment
SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition
Reproducing the Issue
- Open the Maintain Bill of Material (F1813) app and enter edit mode for a BOM.
- Select an existing text item (item category T).
- Use the copy/duplicate function to create a copy of the text item.
- In the copy dialog, observe that Fixed Quantity is set to No (checkbox not selected).
- Save the BOM.
- Reopen the BOM and check the copied item: Fixed Quantity is now set to Yes (checkbox selected).
Cause
- This is standard behavior in Component Supply (CS): when a new text item is created (including via copy), the system sets Fixed Quantity to Yes by default during save.
Resolution
- After copying and saving the BOM (which creates the new text item), reopen the BOM.
- Edit the copied text item and set Fixed Quantity to No (clear the checkbox).
- Save the BOM again to persist the desired setting.
