3804315 - Multi action fails because private version exceeds row limit during data action step — SAP Analytics Cloud

Symptom

  • A multi action fails when a data action step runs.
  • The same failure occurs when the data action is run directly (outside the multi action).
  • Error message: Initiating changes to the public version failed, so the data action couldn't run. Private version can't be created because number of copied rows exceeds the maximum supported number of 100000000 rows. Try running the data action with an empty or automatic planning area to reduce the version size.

Environment

  • SAP Analytics Cloud

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Log in to SAP Analytics Cloud.
  2. Open Job Monitor.
  3. Review the failed job logs for the multi action and note the error message.

Cause

  • The number of rows to be copied when creating a private version exceeds the maximum supported limit (100000000 rows), preventing the data action from running.

Resolution

1. Confirm the error details in Job Monitor.
2. Configure a planning area for the planning model used by the data action to reduce the version size:

  • Set an empty planning area or
  • Enable an automatic planning area.

3. Rerun the data action (or the multi action that includes it).
4. If the issue persists, further reduce the scope so the copied rows stay below the limit:

  • Narrow filters or selections used by the data action.
  • Segment the operation into smaller, targeted runs.

5. Monitor the rerun in Job Monitor to verify success.
