Symptom
An error occurs when posting an acquisition for an already-capitalized asset via invoice verification.
Error message: "Value date is earlier than capitalization date. Posting is not possible."
Message no. AA322
Environment
SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition
Reproducing the Issue
- Start transaction MIR7 (or MIRO).
- Enter the relevant company code.
- Enter the invoice-related dates for the intended acquisition.
- Enter the purchase order number.
- Choose Save as Completed (or post).
Cause
The system-determined asset value date is earlier than the asset’s capitalization date. If not explicitly entered, the asset value date is derived from the goods receipt posting date (if available) or the invoice posting date, which can result in an earlier date than the capitalization date. For further details about Asset value date determination refer to HelpPortal Dates in Asset Accounting.
Resolution
- In MIR7/MIRO when referencing a purchase order, open Details and go to Account Assignment.
- Use the settings/personalization to add the field “Asset value date” to the screen if it is not visible.
- Enter an Asset value date that is on or after the asset’s capitalization date.
- If posting the invoice directly to an asset, add the “Asset value date” field to the initial input screen via settings and set an appropriate date.
- If you rely on automatic determination, ensure that the goods receipt posting date or the invoice posting date is not earlier than the asset’s capitalization date.
