3805350 - Password length error when running story against SAP HANA Cloud live connection

Symptom

  • Error message: "The password for the live connection must be at least 14 characters long."
  • The error could also happen when you try to create/edit the SAP HANA Cloud connection

Environment

  • SAP Analytics Cloud Enterprise
  • SAP HANA Cloud live connection with User Name and Password authentication type.

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Open the story which uses SAP HANA Cloud live connection and the connection HANA user password is less than 14 characters..
  2. The story fails to open and shows the password length error.

Cause

  • There is a security enhancement on SAC micro service side to meet the FIPS 140-3 compliance. The minimum 14 character password is coming from the FIPS compliant libraries that we are using in SAC services.
  • The enforcement is only on the SAP HANA Cloud live connection with basic authentication and other connection types are not affected.

Resolution

  1. Change the connection HANA user password to be longer than 14 characters at HANA side.
  2. Update the SAC connection with the new password.
