Symptom
Import Electronic Bank Statement file of MT940 format fails with error: "Sequences interrupted for statement & &".
Environment
SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition
Reproducing the Issue
- Upload a bank statement file in MT940 format via apps Manage Bank Statements or Manage Incoming Payments Files from Banks.
- Observe that the upload fails with a sequence error.
Cause
- MT940 file contains colons ":" in the beginning of a note to payee line (record 86). The file format does not allow colons within the note to payee, because colons are used as field indicator.
- The 60M and 62M tags are used in the statement file under different statements with different statement number (28C tag value).
Resolution
- Correct the file and remove the incorrect ":" from the note to payee.
- The 62M tag in an MT940 file represents an Intermediate Closing Balance used in SAP Electronic Bank Statements (EBS) to break up a single day's activity into multiple parts. When there are statements which are divided by 62M and next statement which starts with 60M should have the same value in 28C tags.
