3805967 - Function of the Partner Company Field in Journal Entry Vouchers

Symptom

When creating a new Journal Entry Voucher, a Partner Company field is available.

The function and purpose of this field are unclear.

Environment

SAP Business ByDesign

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Go to the General Ledger work center.

  2. Select the Journal Entry Vouchers view.

  3. Click New Journal Entry Voucher.

  4. In the Journal Entry Voucher screen, locate the Partner Company field.

  5. Observe that the Partner Company field is available for entry in the Journal Entry Voucher.

Cause

The Partner Company field is used for intercompany journal entry vouchers. When processing transactions between partner companies within a company group, costs and revenues can be directly assigned and distributed to the affected companies through intercompany journal entry vouchers instead of exchanging invoices between the companies.

Resolution

If the purpose is only to record which partner company the transaction is related to for reference, it is recommended to maintain the relevant information in the Header text field as a text description.

The Partner Company field is not intended to serve as a memo or reference field. Maintaining a partner company in this field has an accounting impact on the corresponding partner company and should therefore only be used when an intercompany accounting transaction is actually required.
