3806014 - Story corruption after copying widget between stories with live Datasphere connection (SAP Analytics Cloud)

Symptom

  • Story becomes corrupted after copying a widget from another story into it.
  • The story is based on a live connection to Datasphere.
  • Story fails to open with error: “Please contact your administrator.”
  • Table widget fails to load with error: “The resource doesn't exist or you don't have the correct permissions.”
  • HAR trace shows: “Caught exception: exception 42208: Can't read the view : _SYS_BIC:”

Environment

  • SAP Analytics Cloud 2026.15.6

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Log on to SAP Analytics Cloud.
  2. Log on to Datasphere that is used by the live model.
  3. Open a working story in Edit mode.
  4. Create a new story (Story -> Canvas).
  5. Copy a table widget from the working story and paste it into the new story.
  6. Save and view the new story; it opens without issues.
  7. In the original working story, add a text widget, then copy the text widget and paste it into the new story.
  8. Save the new story.
  9. View the new story again; the error occurs and the story becomes unusable.

Cause

  • The story’s model information becomes corrupted after copying widgets between stories when using a live Datasphere connection (issue reproducible).

Resolution

The solution of this issue is currently under investigation. Please follow this KBA for updates.

  1. As a temporary measure, avoid copying widgets between different stories when using live Datasphere models; create widgets directly in the target story instead.
  2. If a story is already affected, restore from a previously exported package (backup) of the story if available by re-importing it.
  3. If assistance is required, collect HAR and Console logs for troubleshooting and provide them to support (refer to the guidance below).
