3806566 - Error"Import to model has failed while updating the dimension members. Error code: 5021" displayed when running import job in SAP Analytic Cloud (SAC)

Importing master data from an S/4HANA On-Premise query into an SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC) model fails.

• The following error is displayed:
  • "Import to model has failed while updating the dimension members. Error code: 5021"

The import data connection itself is functional; the failure occurs specifically during the master data import step.

The HAR file / network trace contains the following error detail:

• In SAC, open the Modeler and navigate to the data management page of the affected dimension (e.g. an Account or GL Account dimension).
• Trigger a master data import from the S/4HANA On-Premise query.
• Observe the error: "Import to model has failed while updating the dimension members. Error code: 5021".

The root cause is a hierarchy validation error on the affected dimension.

The import attempts to add member records (e.g. account IDs such as ACCOUNT_001, ACCOUNT_002, ACCOUNT_003) whose parent members do not exist in the same hierarchy at the time of import.

Correct the issue by addressing the missing parent members in the source data or model configuration using one of the following approaches:

Option 1: Include parent members in the same import Ensure that all parent members referenced by the child records are included in the same import batch, so parents and children are loaded together.

Option 2: Reassign affected members to an existing parent Reassign the affected child members in the source query or hierarchy definition to a parent that already exists in the SAC hierarchy.

Once the parent members are present in the hierarchy, the import should complete successfully.

Additional Information:

An improvement is planned to enhance the error message for this scenario. In a future update, the error will include specific details about the missing parent members, making the root cause self-explanatory without requiring a support investigation.
