3806649 - Unplanned depreciation in the current year - SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition

Symptom

  • Unplanned depreciation does not influence the depreciation calculated by the system in the current year. It only affects the calculations of the following years.

Environment

  • Product: SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Post an unplanned depreciation (impairment) in the current fiscal year using the Post Depreciation Manually app with an unplanned depreciation transaction type (for example, 640 or 650).
  2. Open Asset Value Display and review planned ordinary depreciation for the remaining periods of the fiscal year.
  3. Observe that ordinary depreciation remains unchanged for the current fiscal year and only adjusts in the next fiscal year.

Cause

As per SAP Note 50761, due to the old calculation logic, the impact of unplanned depreciation only affects the calculations of the following years.



Resolution

  • The unplanned depreciation posting does not impact current year calculation when NBV (24) is used as base, you can consider to use replacement value (27) and retest to see if it meets your own business need. 
  • Post manual special depreciation, this is allowed for NBV (24) but only when special depreciation is used in the valuation area
  • Post ordinary depreciation completely manual for this specific use case, there is no mass processing available as this treatment is considered something exceptional which justifies the posting
  • Consider using the BAdI FAA_DC_UPA_CUSTOMER to compute the base value customer specific
