Symptom

  • A specific SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC) Excel Add-in workbook cannot be opened in Office 365 Excel Online.
  • Error message: "Failed to load state from Excel document".
  • The issue occurs only in the Web version of Excel (Online).

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Open the SAC add-in in Office 365 Excel (Web/Online).
  2. Open the affected add-in workbook/report.
  3. Observe that a new window opens, but the connection does not establish and the report fails to load.

Cause

  • The affected workbook likely contains a large/complex SAC add-in state that exceeds Excel for the web limits, preventing the state from loading.
  • The same workbook is expected to work in Excel Desktop.

Resolution

    Open the same SAC add-in workbook in Excel Desktop to validate that it loads there.
