Symptom
- Creating a recurring supplier invoice against a G/L account with a fixed/mandatory tax category shows no tax code field in the template and the document cannot be created or corrected.
- Periodic run for the recurring entry stops with the error: "G/L account requires a valid tax code."
- In Manage Recurring Supplier Invoices, the tax code is not automatically derived from the G/L account master data.
- In Manage Supplier Invoices (single invoice), the correct tax code is proposed automatically from the G/L account and posts without error.
- Existing recurring entries created before the tax category restriction continue to work because the tax code was already set on the recurring entry.
Environment
- Product: SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition
- Fiori UI for Invoice Verification (Public Cloud)
- Apps: Manage Recurring Supplier Invoices; Manage Supplier Invoices
Reproducing the Issue
- In G/L account master data, set a G/L account’s tax category to a fixed/mandatory tax code (for example, V0).
- Open the Manage Recurring Supplier Invoices app.
- Create a new recurring supplier invoice using that restricted G/L account.
- Observe that no tax code field is available on the template and the document cannot be created or corrected.
- Run the periodic posting for the recurring entry.
- Observe the error: "G/L account requires a valid tax code."
- Compare by posting a single supplier invoice for the same account in Manage Supplier Invoices and note that the tax code is derived automatically.
Cause
- Manage Recurring Supplier Invoices stores the tax code on the template G/L Account Items line and replays it on each run; it does not derive the tax code from the G/L account master data. This is by design.
- The failure occurs when the G/L account requires a tax code while the recurring template line holds no tax code; the periodic run then stops with "G/L account requires a valid tax code."
- Single interactive invoices are unaffected because that app proposes the tax code automatically from the account at entry time.
Resolution
- Open each impacted recurring template in Manage Recurring Supplier Invoices in edit mode.
- In G/L Account Items, select the line for the tax-relevant G/L account and enter the required tax code (for example, V0) in the Tax Code field, then save.
- If the Tax Code field is not available or is read-only, capture a screenshot and raise a follow-up for review, as the field is expected to be maintainable on the template line.
- After all relevant templates store the correct tax code, set or enforce the account’s fixed/mandatory tax category in G/L account master data.
- For new recurring templates going forward, enter the tax code on the G/L Account Items line during creation so it is stored and replayed on each scheduled run.
- If the account does not need to enforce a tax code, no changes are required for recurring posting to proceed.
