Symptom
- Need to adjust an already active Cost Component Structure (CCS) by activating a new cost component and changing assignments of existing cost elements to cost components.
- Concern that updating the CCS after activation may cause data inconsistency in the cost component breakdown.
Environment
SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition
Reproducing the Issue
- Activate a Cost Component Structure (CCS) in a the system.
- Add a new cost component and change assignments of existing cost elements to cost components.
- Review the cost component breakdown and observe concerns about potential inconsistencies.
Cause
- Historical actual cost component splits are not retroactively adjusted when the CCS is changed; postings remain split according to the CCS that was active at the time of posting.
- Creating an additional/new CCS is not supported in Public Cloud.
Resolution
- Do not create a second/new CCS; this is not supported in SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition.
- Modify the active CCS as needed:
1. Add new cost components.
2. Change cost element-to-cost component assignments. - Acknowledge that historical actual postings will remain as originally split; the system does not retroactively recalculate historical splits.
- For future costing and postings, recalculate standard cost estimates for the affected materials, then mark and release them so subsequent transactions follow the updated CCS.
