Symptom
- In the Bank Account Management payment approval process, payments up to XXXX USD should be auto-approved.
- Payments exceeding XXXX USD should initiate a workflow to the designated payment approver.
- Both payment categories use the same payment method and the same bank account details.
- Step-by-step configuration guidance is requested to enable this behavior.
Environment
- Product: SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition
Cause
- The requested logic is not supported by the standard BCM + BAM payment approval design; this requirement cannot be implemented with the current solution. A new Functional Approval framework replaces the legacy BCM + BAM approach from release CE 2608.
Resolution
- Acknowledge that the exact requirement (amount-only approval rule independent of payment method and bank account, with ≤ XXXX auto-approved and > XXXX routed for approval) is not supported by the current BCM + BAM design.
- Plan to adopt the Functional Approval framework introduced starting with release CE 2608, which replaces legacy BCM + BAM for payment handling.
- After CE 2608 or higher, configure an amount-based approval rule in the Functional Approval framework to auto-approve payments up to 20,000 USD and route payments above 20,000 USD to the approver.
- Refer to official product documentation for Functional Approval configuration and verify in a test tenant before rollout.
