Symptom
In an SAP Analytics Cloud story with dimension filters with the Cascading Effect option enabled still display member values that have no corresponding data, even after preceding filter selections have been made.
Specifically:
- A story using a dimension hierarchy shows all members of a subsequent filter (including those with no data) even when Cascading is enabled.
- After applying a filter on one dimension, a dependent dimension filter still lists members for which no data exists for the current filter selection.
Environment
SAP Analytics Cloud 2026.15.6
Reproducing the Issue
- Open a story that has multiple dimension filters with Cascading Effect enabled.
- Navigate to the relevant story page.
- Click See More Filters.
- Navigate to a dimension filter that depends on another filter upstream (e.g. a child dimension filter).
- By default, all filter values are selected.
- Deselect all values and select a limited subset of members (e.g. Member A, Member B).
- Observe that no data is displayed in the table after making these selections.
- However, the dependent dimension filter still contains values that do not have corresponding data for the selected criteria.
- Switch the story to Edit Mode and confirm that the Cascading Effect option is enabled for the filters.
Cause
The behaviour is working as designed.
The Cascading Effect for input controls (story filters) is functioning correctly: filter values are cascaded as selections are made in other filters. However, a perceived mismatch between the filter list and the visible table data arises due to the following:
- SAP Analytics Cloud tables have a Zero Suppression and Null Suppression feature. When these suppression options are enabled on a table, rows or columns with zero or null values are hidden from the table display.
Resolution
No configuration change is required to fix the cascading filter behaviour since it is working correctly.
To verify and confirm the root cause, disable the Zero/Null Suppression setting on the affected table:
- Select the table in the story.
- Go to the table's Builder or Styling panel.
- Locate the Zero Suppression and Null Suppression settings and turn them OFF.
- Observe that the table now shows the same member values as the dimension input control.
This confirms that the filter cascading is correct, and the apparent discrepancy is caused entirely by the table's suppression settings.
If zero/null suppression in input controls is a business requirement, this is currently not supported as a standard feature. Users who require this functionality should submit an enhancement request by following the instructions in:
