3808062 - Clean & Replace Subset of Data fails with public dimension scope (error 1019) due to scope mismatch in SAP Analytics Cloud

Symptom

  • Import using the Clean & Replace Subset of Data method fails when a public dimension is selected as scope; the same import succeeds when a private dimension is used as scope.
  • Error shown: "Import to model ended unexpectedly. Error code: 1019".
  • Import settings opened from the Data Management page show a different number of scopes than the import settings opened via the job’s Edit > Import settings (ratchet icon)
  • A newly created job with identical mapping and scopes runs successfully when scopes are maintained via the job’s import settings (ratchet icon) rather than from the Data Management page.

Environment

SAP Analytics Cloud

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Open a model that has an import job configured with Clean & Replace Subset of Data and a public dimension selected in the scope.
  2. Modify the scopes of an import job from Data Management page.
  3. Run the import job.
  4. Observe that the job fails with "Import to model ended unexpectedly. Error code: 1019".
  5. Compare the scopes shown in Import settings opened from the Data Management page versus Import settings opened via the job’s Edit > Import settings (ratchet icon); note they differ.

Cause

The Data Management wrangling UI drop-down can display incorrect scope values, causing a mismatch between scopes shown in Data Management and scopes configured in the job’s Import settings. This mismatch can lead to failure of Clean & Replace Subset of Data when public dimensions are used as scope.

Resolution

  1. Recreate the import job.
  2. Define and maintain the scope dimensions only within the job’s Import settings (ratchet icon). Do not add or modify scopes from the Data Management page.
  3. Save the job and run the import again to confirm it completes without error 1019.
