3808076 - ASSERTION_FAILED dump in program /SHCM/RH_SYNC_BUPA_EMPL_SINGLE after upgrade due to missing DATAX for custom fields — SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition

Symptom

  • Running program /SHCM/RH_SYNC_BUPA_EMPL_SINGLE ends with short dump ASSERTION_FAILED.
  • Business Partner synchronization terminates when processing changed fields.
  • Dump location points to class CL_FS4BPU_BUPA_API_ABSTRACT, method _CONV_CHANGED_FIELDS_TO_DATAX.
  • Error text observed: "ASSERT condition failed".

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Upgrade the system from SAP S/4HANA 2022 to SAP S/4HANA 2025.
  2. Ensure there are customer extension fields appended to BP-related DATA structures without corresponding fields in the related DATAX structures.
  3. Run program /SHCM/RH_SYNC_BUPA_EMPL_SINGLE to synchronize Employee to Business Partner.
  4. Observe that the program stops with ASSERTION_FAILED in method _CONV_CHANGED_FIELDS_TO_DATAX of class CL_FS4BPU_BUPA_API_ABSTRACT.

Cause

  • Intended change in standard logic of method _CONV_CHANGED_FIELDS_TO_DATAX requires that every changed field in the DATA structure has a corresponding component in the DATAX structure. If a custom extension field exists only in DATA and not in DATAX, the process ends with an ASSERT.

Resolution

  1. Identify all customer extension fields used by Business Partner Employee synchronization that are appended to DATA structures (for example, central data common).
  2. For each extension field present in the DATA structure, add a corresponding component to the associated DATAX structure with the same component name, serving as the change indicator.
  3. Activate the append structures in the Data Dictionary and transport as needed.
  4. Ensure all relevant BP segments (for example, central data, addresses, roles) maintain symmetry between DATA and DATAX structures for any extensions.
  5. Run /SHCM/RH_SYNC_BUPA_EMPL_SINGLE again and confirm the synchronization completes without a dump.
